3 Steps You Can Take Today to get your lawn ready for fall

Just because summer is over, doesn’t mean you should stop caring for your lawn. In fact, by taking these few steps now, your lawn will be healthier than ever by springtime. With autumn quickly approaching, this means more rainfall and quickly dropping temperatures, making it the perfect time to begin preparing your lawn for the new year. During the fall season, your lawn is busy working to absorb and retain all of the nutrients it can in order to prepare for the long winter months. Here are some things you can do to help:

Continue Mowing

You should continue to water and mow as your lawn needs it throughout the fall season. Then, as the season comes to an end, your last few cuts before winter should be done at your mower’s lowest setting. This will help your lawn to get more sunlight and nutrients right before winter.

Rake the Leaves

Though this isn’t a fun task, it is a very important one to keep in mind this fall. You should rake the leaves in your yard regularly, rather than waiting for all of them to fall. By not regularly taking care of the leaves, you allow them to become wet from rain and dew, which in turn will suffocate the grass beneath it and also provides the perfect breeding ground for fungal diseases.

Fertilize

If you are only going to fertilize your lawn once per year, fall is the best time to do so. An application of fertilizer in the fall season will give your grass the nutrients it will need in order to have a healthy start in the spring.
